The Bay Friendly Businesses Program (initially called the Cleaner Productions Program) was developed by GeoCatch to encourage industry best practice to reduce nutrients and other contaminants leaving light industrial sites and entering wetlands, waterways and Geographe Bay.

Working with 74 businesses from 2006 to 2014 GeoCatch developed an audit and recognition program to encourage businesses to implement practice changes and infrastructure upgrades to improve water efficiency on-site, and improve water quality leaving their site.

The programs included one on one audits with businesses in Capel, Busselton and Dunsborough examining relevant permits required by the business, adequate storage areas for hazardous substances and spill response measures, waste water produced by the site, management and disposal of solid waste, cleaning and maintenance practices and finally water efficiency of the business.

The recognition program was developed to compliment the audit process and give businesses a marketing advantage if the business met the audit recommendations. Businesses that met requirements, or implemented the recommendations from their report were approved as ‘Bay Friendly’.

Keep an eye out for Bay Friendly Business stickers and certificates displayed at local businesses and be sure to support the businesses that are doing their best to look after our water ways and Geographe Bay.
