Do you love living in the South West and our beautiful bushland? Do you have a passion for the environment and want to leave a positive legacy for future generations?
The City of Busselton is looking for volunteers to help care for City managed reserves by joining one of its environmental volunteer groups (Friends of Reserves). With 15 active Friends of Reserve groups across the district, chances are that there is one nearby to join. The Friends of Reserves groups undertake some fantastic work in the Geographe catchment, which helps to protect our rivers, estuaries and Geographe Bay.
Volunteers will learn how to identify native flora and weeds, spot native animals and care for native ecosystems. This is an opportunity to care for reserves close to your home or those with conservation priorities such as Ambergate and Carbunup Reserves. These Reserves support endangered flora and fauna, and represent snapshots into the Busselton district before land clearing.
Volunteers will be assisted by City of Busselton Environmental Officers. Tasks include planting, weeding, preparing grant applications, maintaining paths, and brushing (using branches to stabilise soil). A general level of fitness is required, and high visibility vests and some tools are provided. You will need some personal protective gear such as long pants, enclosed shoes, gloves, and a hat. The level of commitment is entirely up to you, whether you want to get out every day or once a month.
