GeoCatch is running a free Catio Bus Tour and Design workshop for cat lovers this March.
Catios, or cat runs/enclosures, are becoming more common in this region because of their cat welfare benefits. Inspired by the catio tour craze in the United States, the GeoCatch Catio Tour will showcase both practical and pampered cat enclosures.
“GeoCatch is bringing a mini version of the catio tour to the Geographe Bay Catchment, to demonstrate some of the amazing catios we have in our region,” said Nicole Lincoln, GeoCatch project officer.
“We want to support cat owners to create safe spaces for cats and owners to enjoy, promoting responsible pet ownership that benefits cats and local wildlife into the future.”
Tour participants will visit four local catios and learn how to keep happy indoor catio cats. Four catio hosts will share their stories about what motivated them to install their catio, how their cats adapted to the new enclosure and any unexpected benefits or learnings.
Dr Heather Crawford, a professional cat behaviouralist from Murdoch University, will be available throughout the tour to answer cat care questions. Professional catio builders and architects will help participants create their own catio design. Anyone who has considered building a catio is encouraged to make the most of this unique opportunity.
The Catio Bus Tour and Design workshop will be held Saturday 27 March from 9:00am to 2:30pm. Register online or call 9781 0117.
This project is supported by South West Catchments Council, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
