Be a Bay OK School

Create a Bay OK Garden at School

We can support your school to create a Bay OK garden! Whether you want to create a productive garden with wicking beds, compost heaps and worm farms, verge landscaping or showcase our local native flora, we can help.

Our Bay OK Garden principles (low nutrient, waterwise and biodiverse) are perfect for a school garden and teach students sustainable gardening practices that they will take with them beyond their school life.

This program fits well with the school curriculum. We have worked with a number of schools in the Geographe Bay Catchment to run Bay OK Day and develop beautiful Bay OK school gardens. We also visit and run community workshops at schools to promote Bay OK practices.

We encourage all schools in our Catchment to be Bay OK! Get in touch to find out how.

The best day of the school year!

Bay OK Day

Bay OK Day is a celebration of the Geographe Bay Catchment. It is a day of learning about catchment processes and empowers students to have a positive impact on the local environment.

As everything that happens in the Catchment has an impact on the Bay, the activities often focus on the impacts to the marine and coastal environment. The Bay is the driver behind the education programs because it is most valued by the community.

Dunsborough Primary School acknowledges the importance of environmental education and has integrated Bay OK Day into its annual event program. Every year the entire school descends on the Dunsborough Boat Ramp Foreshore to take part. We assist with activities, however the school has taken it upon itself to coordinate and run the event.

Cowaramup Primary has followed suit with their Say G’Day to the Bay Day cultural and environmental excursion event.

We encourage all schools in our Catchment to adopt Bay OK Day in one form or another. If you would like support with a Bay OK Day event, please let us know.

Tree Planting

Enhancing and restoring natural habitat through tree planting supports our local wildlife to thrive while growing a more connected community.

Tree planting can be incorporated into a range of learning programs and school projects.

We can help your school create an ongoing project to protect native vegetation.

Help out our Western Ringtail Possums

Build a Possum Box

Possum boxes provide important refuges for Western Ringtail Possums, as mature trees decline in urban areas.

We have worked with local schools to install possum boxes in trees on school grounds. Students can be engaged in the construction, installation and monitoring of possum boxes. This provides a valuable and rewarding experience for students while teaching them about wildlife conservation.

If you would like support to install possum or other wildlife boxes at your school, please contact us.
