Join GeoCatch’s Community Tree Planting Day in June

GeoCatch is inviting the community to come along and plant some native seedlings at its 2026 tree planting day on Sunday 14 June in Broadwater, from 10am to 12:30pm.

The planting day will build on previous years’ efforts, connecting areas of bushland along the Holgate Road foreshore, providing vital habitat for the critically endangered Nguraren (Western Ringtail Possum) and extending urban habitat for birds and other native wildlife.

Whether you are a passionate conservationist or simply looking for a rewarding way to spend a Sunday morning outdoors with family and friends, people of all ages and experience levels are welcome to attend.

GeoCatch Executive Manager, Drew McKenzie, said the planting day is a great opportunity to make an environmental impact while connecting with your local community.

“This is our major community planting for the year with nearly 1,000 plants. These events are such a good opportunity to make a tangible positive impact for our local environment and get our hands dirty working alongside each other,” said Mr McKenzie.

“By working collectively, we can strengthen important habitat corridors and directly support the recovery of our bushland, wildlife and foreshore reserves.”

This year’s event continues to be supported by the City of Busselton and Busselton Water and for the second year running Georgiana Molloy Anglican School students from Eagle House have raised funds and will also volunteer their time to prepare the planting site. Following a successful Nguraren Night Stalk and education session, a donation towards native habitat planting has been made on behalf of a local TV production crew shooting in our region.

GeoCatch invites everyone to come along to this free event, get their hands dirty, and be part of a community effort to reconnect more of the fragmented habitat along the Holgate Road foreshore. There are also a series of educational signs at the foreshore packed with facts about the Nguraren and tips on how you can help this critically endangered species.
