Code of Practice
Best practice for managing dairy effluent.
The Code of Practice for Dairy Farm Effluent Management WA (2021) outlines the shared industry and agency expectations for dairy effluent management in the state. The Code provides clear standards for effluent management for all dairy sheds, as well as guidelines for new dairy sheds. The Code is used as a self-regulation tool for dairy farmers and as a reference for referral agencies across the state.
We benchmarked 32 dairy sheds in 2015/16 against the 2012 Code of Practice. Findings were that the majority of dairy farms required improvements to meet the standards required in the Code. So far, GeoCatch have supported 10 dairy farms to upgrade their systems.
