Find out about creating beautiful outdoor spaces for your cat to keep your pet and our local wildlife safe. GeoCatch and the Shire of Capel are running a free, interactive and informative DIY Catio (Cat Enclosure) Building Workshop on 4 October 10am to 12:30pm at Peppermint Grove Beach Community Centre.
At the workshop you will learn what is involved in building your feline friend an affordable catio. Cat Behaviouralist Dr Heather Crawford from Murdoch University will also be presenting on what is required to keep your cat happy in its new catio.
The workshop will include information on the $200 Catio Rebate scheme for cat owners*; educational stalls and advice on cat ownership, catio construction, wildlife and gardening and different catio styles; and a demonstration by Cat Runs WA on how to thread and install cat netting.
Dr Crawford said that cats can be content in an enclosed space if provided with the right stimulus and enrichment activities.
“Cats can live happy, healthy lives in catios, provided its design provides mental and physical enrichment, such as climbing posts, plants and other activities within the enclosure,” says Dr Crawford.
There will be time for questions at the end of the workshop, lunch provided and door prizes. The catio rebates are on offer to cat owners living within the City of Busselton, Shire of Augusta Margaret River, Shire of Capel and Shire of Donnybrook – Balingup.
Visit geocatch.asn.au to register for the workshop (bookings essential) or register your interest in the rebate.
This project is delivered by GeoCatch, in partnership with Shire of Capel, with funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program.
