Perennial Pastures Farm Walk

How to establish perennial pastures in the South West of WA

Can we make perennial pastures work in our South West of WA?

Most farmers love the idea of perennial pastures but know how challenging it can be to establish perennials where there is a competitive annual species seedbank.

The aim of this free event is to equip farmers with an understanding on what’s needed to give perennials the best chance of survival.

Join local agronomist Graham Mussell, host farmer Garry Haddon and fellow farmers, where we’ll discuss weed management, grazing management and the current species on the market.

Garry is a dairy farmer committed to improving sustainability. He has previously trialled the hybrid perennial ryegrass Shogun. In May 2025 he sowed with Samurye hybrid ryegrass and Haifa White Clover. We’ll take a walk through Garry’s paddocks supporting perennials and hear what lessons were learned.

This event is part of the FEaST2030 project, supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program and delivered by South West NRM.
