GeoCatch’s ‘Bay OK’ mission is to encourage the community to work together to improve water quality of the Geographe Catchment’s waterways and wetlands in order to protect the Geographe Bay for the future.
Geographe Bay is in relatively good condition and is home to hundreds of different life forms, including the second largest seagrass meadow in Australia. However, water quality monitoring in the Geographe Catchment indicates that the health of the Bay could be at risk if nutrient inputs continue to increase. High nutrients load send our natural aquatic systems out of balance, fuelling algae growth which can smother plants and lead to the death of fish and other aquatic fauna. These nutrients come from a range of sources and everyone can do their bit to reduce them because… “A healthy bay begins in your own backyard”
