Rehydrating Farm Landscapes Program

GeoCatch has partnered with The Mulloon Institute to deliver a Landscape Hydrology Program to help farmers tackle one of the biggest challenges in agriculture – managing water in the landscape. Whether it’s water running off your paddocks after heavy rain or areas that flood in winter and turn bone dry in summer, this program gives you practical strategies to hold water where it’s needed and restore balance to your land.

The Mulloon Institute is a leading Australian research and education organisation specialising in regenerative agriculture and landscape rehydration. Their proven methods help farmers improve soil health, restore water cycles, and create productive, resilient farms for the future.

Reydrating Farm Landscapes Program

Stage 1
Introductory Field Day

The introductory field day on 4 March 2026 provided a foundational understanding of landscape processes, and the critical role of water cycling in functional landscapes. It introduced the Mulloon Institute’s approaches to fostering drought resilience and restoring degraded land. As a precursor to the Field Day, participants had the opportunity to review various online resources set up on a digital platform.

Stage 2
Two-day Bootcamp

The two-day bootcamp on 22-23 April 2026 encompassed a skills-based course about harnessing the water cycle to improve landscape functions, including how to apply procedures to plan and implement restoration interventions on your property.

This activity took place both in the field and as presentations.

Day 1 covered planning, assessing and measuring landscapes.

Day 2 covered conceptual implementation of landscape repair.

Stage 3
Mentoring Program

From May to October 2026, bootcamp graduates can receive tailored support from Mulloon Institute experts. This includes one-on-one property visits, online sessions with Mulloon Institute expert, Lance Mudgway, and access to a peer learning hub to help you design and implement a project that suits your farm.

Stage 4
Boots on Ground Project Day

Save the date: Week of 9th-12th November 2026 at the Happ property in Upper Capel.

The final stage of the program brings everyone together, participants from the Field Day, Bootcamp, and Mentoring Program, for a hands-on community event. Hosted at a farm that has been part of the mentoring program, this day is the culmination of all the planning and learning that’s taken place. You’ll see restoration strategies put into action, share experiences, and work alongside others to implement practical solutions for holding water in the landscape.

This program is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
