GeoCatch and Mulloon Institute launch Rehydrating Farm Landscapes Program in 2026

GeoCatch is excited to be partnering with The Mulloon Institute to bring the ‘Rehydrating Farm Landscapes Program’ to the Geographe region in 2026, supporting local farmers to understand water on their properties and build more a resilient landscape.

With many landholders facing challenges such as water rapidly running off paddocks after heavy rain or areas that swing between winter flooding and summer dryness, the program offers practical, proven strategies to hold water in the landscape and restore ecological balance.

The first event in the program, the ‘Introducing Farm Hydrology Field Day’, will be held on Wednesday 4 March. Led by Mulloon Institute Hydrologist, Lance Mudgway, the field day is designed for landholders wanting to understand how water moves through the landscape, why water cycling is central to farm health, and how hydrology‑based restoration can repair degraded land.

The Field Day marks the beginning of a four‑stage program.

The 2-day Landscape Rehydration Bootcamp, on 22–23 April 2026, provides hands‑on training in using the water cycle to improve landscape function and plan restoration works.

Bootcamp graduates, are able to then continue with the ‘One-on-One Mentoring Program’, running from May to October 2026, tailored for each individual landholder and includes a property visit, one-on-one mentoring sessions with Mulloon Institute experts and access to a peer learning hub.

The program concludes with the ‘Boots on Ground Project Day’ in October 2026, where participants come together for a property scale land restoration project, hosted on a local farm involved in the mentoring program.

The Mulloon Institute is recognised nationally as a leader in regenerative agriculture and landscape rehydration, helping farmers improve soil health, restore water cycles and build climate‑resilient farming systems. Hydrologist Lance Mudgway brings more than 20 years of experience working with surface and groundwater across Western Australia’s agricultural regions.

To register for the upcoming ‘Introducing Farm Hydrology Field Day’ on 4 March, visit the GeoCatch Events webpage here. Tickets are $20, including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

These initiatives are supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
